Meet Lucy
Loving, confident and very particular about her creature comforts. Lucy may not be our largest Dane, but she certainly has no shortage of personality.

Lucy is a real madam.
Lucy belongs to our youngest son, Christo. From the beginning she chose him as her person, and the two of them have a very special relationship. She listens extremely well to Christo and seems to understand exactly what he expects from her.
She is a confident girl. If she feels her family needs protecting, she will be there. She is not an aggressive dog at all — assertive is a much better word for her. Lucy knows what she likes, knows what she does not like, and does not take nonsense.
Although she is not quite as large as some of our other Great Danes, she makes up for it with character.
Madam Lucy's house rules
If Lucy is going to lie down, there had better be a blanket — even in summer.
If it is raining outside, Lucy sees absolutely no reason why she should have to go out in it.
A couch, a soft bed or a family bed will always beat the floor.
She has a particularly strong bond with our youngest son and listens beautifully to him.
A Great Dane's idea of roughing it
These photos probably explain better than we ever could why we say our Danes are house dogs.

Three beautiful litters
Lucy has been an incredible mother and has given us three memorable litters.
First litter
Lucy surprised us with an incredible thirteen puppies in her first litter.
Second litter
Her second litter brought another eleven beautiful puppies into the Ankers family.
Final litter
Her third and final litter gave us eight beautiful babies. At four years old, Lucy has done more than enough and now deserves to enjoy retirement as the madam of the house.
“She won't sleep on a cold floor, she won't willingly go out in the rain, and she knows exactly who her person is. That is Lucy.”
